Although access to explosives is supposed to be very limited, people with bad intentions are resourceful. In order to protect people and infrastructure from attacks with explosives, detection of these explosives before they are put to use is crucial. Among the different tools that exist for detection, explosive detection dogs still play a very important role, both in a military and in a civilian context. In this presentation, different challenges linked to the use of explosive detection dogs will be discussed. Throughout the presentation, the role of research in the Forensic Laboratory for Analysis of eXplosives (FLAX) of the Royal Military Academy in addressing these different challenges will be highlighted. It will be shown that, though faced with these challenges, explosive detection dogs remain an essential tool in providing security.

Teams Link will be announced soon.
